Hog’s Breath Racing Skyvia Ute

Skyvia Ute Blazing on its shake down at Calder Park.

With just three days up our sleeve the Skyvia Ute was complete and tuned ready for our long haul to Calder Park Thunder dome for its very first Victorian appearance. The  hype surrounding the ADGP exhibition round combined with the very first ever Formula Drift Asia event was anticipating a huge spectator audience. The Team was enlisted as part of the on track entertainment between rounds. This was a perfect opportunity for the team to catch up with the team from Sidchrome, Dewalt and Hogs Breath café and get them trackside and experience some Hot laps on the Thunderdome!

Needless to say all of our Hot lappers were blown away with their experience, and are sure to remember for many years to come. A few minor issues with car were rectified at the track. And the Skyvia performed brilliantly on its very first outing with the new power plant. I was giggling like a school girl under my helmet having the excess power under my pedal. Absolute joy to drive !!

The SKYVIA ute is back !!

After much consideration, myself and the team had decided the ute was due for a make over. Plenty of supporters and fans were calling  the R34 front to come back. Along with this , the Ute was also due for some added KW so the decision was also made to upgrade the entire Power plant and driveline. The original SR20 DET engine and trans were removed. The entire interior, wiring and accessories were stripped from the car. The front end had suffered plenty of battle damage over the past 3 seasons and was in need of some urgent attention. the decision was made to cut off and remove the damaged chassis rails, and entire inner guards and radiator support.

I spoke with the boys from Monro Race cars. They were enlisted to bend up the necessary tube sections needed for the new tube front end. I custom made the tubs to suit the length of the now shortened chassis rails. A removable tube rio bar was also made to assist with any hard collisions in the future. The job always seems fairly straight forward before you start. But honestly I wanted everything to be right so the entire job realistically should have taken over 6 weeks. But with the assistance of my awesome crew Carey Haden, Cameron Esperon, and Daniel Zosky we managed to demolish the job in just 3 short weeks.

An entire rewire, different ECU, Dash , controls, cooling system, and all accessories along with full engine bay paint, interior paint , complete R34 GTR front end, RB 25 DET engine and gearbox, one piece tail shaft was all installed and running in under 3 weeks. I have to say a very special thank you to each and everyone involved Cartel Australia, Sam from HEL brake lines, Luke from G&A Wolfe smash repairs, Eastcoast Customs , Silky from Monro,  Justin Simpson from Horsepower Solutions, JT from Drift and Drag Wings.

New Tubs and Tube Front End for the Hogster Skyvia

After plenty of time in the shed, the new tube front end is taking shape and the newly fabricated tubs have been fitted!

Stadium Drift Round 2

Dan Showtime Kenneally

Prior to Dan going pro in 2009, Dan owned and operated his own Motorsport workshop- ADD Racing based in North Brisbane. He specialized in building, modifying and servicing Japanese imports.  He began drifting in 2005 competing in the Driftzone State series run at Queensland raceway. In his very first year of competition, Dan finished third overall in the State series even missing the final round due to an interstate event being on the same weekend. The Series was won by Jerome Kennedy, whom also finished second in the Fullock Drift Nationals series which was the premier Australian series at the time. Happy with his performance and consistent driving throughout that year, Dan was hooked on the sport of Drifting. Competing in a basic set up Cefiro powered by an RB25DET making around 200kw, Dan decided he would set himself a goal of winning the next state championship. Dan is regarded as a very devoted, flamboyant and hard charging driver. Very much a crowd pleaser Dan always is out to entertain the crowd. In 2006 Dan achieved his goal of winning the Qld championship, proving he was the state’s most consistent driver. As the competition stepped up, so did the machinery and so did the expense. Dan managed to grab the attention of Motul oils and Falken Tyres. These were the very first companies to invest in Dan as a driver.

At the Full Lock Drift Nationals event in Qld that year, Dan entered the Pro class and finished a very credible third place at his very first National event. In the heats Dan knocked out Robbie Boldger in the Capa 1000 HP commodore ute and was given the nicknamed the “Giant Killer”. Dan unfortunately suffered fuel surge in his Top 4 run against Tony Harrison ’50MAN”. He dominated his run off for third place convincingly and this opened the eyes of the major sponsor of the event at the time Toyo Tires representative Clinton Joyce. Clinton was so impressed with Dan’s massive high speed entries and cars presentation, that he offered him a contract with the company at the event. This was the start of Dan forming a partnership with Toyo Tires and has now been with the company for a very strong 6 years. Toyo has been an instrumental part of Dan’s massive list of achievements and success over the years. Dan to date has won, and finished on the podium at over 135 events making him the most successful driver in Queensland.
